Dakota Cub Aircraft received design approval in January 2001, and parts manufacturing approval (PMA) for extended range replacement fuel tanks in February 2001. This STC currently covers three Piper models as indicated in the eligibility listing. These replacement tanks were designed to fit directly into the existing tank support straps with the addition of an additional set of support straps located outboard of the originals. Modifications of two ribs is necessary to accommodate the longer tank lid assembly. Each tank "kit" contains all parts and materials necessary to complete the installation process. An installation drawing details each step of the modifications process. Tank modification and repairs: On Piper models that feature an electric fuel sender, an additional attachment plate must be installed onto the inboard side of each tank (R & L). If you are considering the elimination of the electric fuel gauges, the standard sight gauge fittings are already installed. This can be a desirable conversion to replace the troublesome electric gauges, and many customers have chosen the more reliable sight gauges system. If you desire this change, contact you aircraft maintenance technician about coordinating the necessary FAA approval process. If additional fittings/connections are needed for your application or to comply with the installation instructions of an additional STC, please advise. We have installed additional fittings into our tanks to utilize auxiliary fuel tanks (belly tanks). This is done via the installation instructions from the aux-tank manufacturer. In the case that our tank leaks, our policy is to make any weld repairs at no charge, but the customer must adequately crate (wooden with protective padding) and ship the tanks to our South Dakota facility.
