Dakota Cub Aircraft received design approval in February 2002, and parts manufacturing approval (PMA) for an extended wing assembly in March 2002. This STC currently covers the Piper models as indicated in the eligibility listing. These replacement wings are fabricated exclusively from aircraft quality materials. Their high strength and durable design provides an excellent replacement for the original wing assembly. This extended wing design is the same overall length as a standard PA-18 wing, but features a squared off wing tip increasing the overall fly area of the wing. The wing end is finished off with a fiberglass tip with an upslope contour. A standard length aileron with squared off outboard end is relocated outboard, and a substantially larger 90 1/4" flap extends inboard to the fuselage side adding 44% more flap area. What is most significant about this wing system is that several popular wing modifications are combined into one wing system:
The "Long Wing" modification utilized in the past added as unnecessary weight penalty at the wing tip with the addition of reinforcing plates to support the original spar "cut-outs". Our spars are manufactured without the spar "cut-outs", which provides a stronger yet lighter wing tip area. The installation of our 23 gallon extended range fuel tanks compliment the wing's overall performance. Approved Model List PA-18"135"(ARMY L-21B), PA-18A"135", PA-18S"135", PA-18AS"135", PA-18"150", PA-18A"150", PA-18S"150", PA-18AS"150" |
